Pembrokeshire once again has topped the list of Blue Flag beaches in Wales winning 10 Blue Flags. Ceredigion achieved 6, with Cilborth beach gaining the award for the first time despite the dreadful storms which hit our coast this winter, and Carmarthenshire 1.
The Blue Flag Awards runs in 48 countries across the world and recognise beaches and marinas across the world for not only their high standard of water quality, but also their cleanliness, safety and excellent facilities.
With the water quality threshold higher than ever before, gaining an award is a superb achievement.
Secluded beaches are recognised with the Green Coast Award. Winners of this award are generally the small coves and secluded beaches which qualify with the highest standard of water quality but are better known for their natural, unspoiled environment. Pembrokeshire achieved 12 Green Coast Awards and Ceredigion 3.
The Wales Coast Path also gained the accolade of being named the top region to visit in the world by The Lonely Planet Guide recently.
