With recent reports stating that organic produce has now been proved definitely to be better for you after all, our ethos here at Pembrokeshire Farm B & B is to serve homemade, home grown organic or locally sourced produce only, whenever possible.
This has proved extremely popular with our guests with my homemade soda bread, Rayner’s homemade wholemeal loaf and our Summer puddings and fruit fools made from fruit grown organically and picked from the kitchen garden, served with homemade lavender (grown in the garden, of course) shortbread proving particularly popular.
Our heritage tomatoes are ripening nicely for our guests’ breakfasts and freshly picked raspberries or wild strawberries which grow on the ancient walls of our fortified farmhouse are delicious at this time of year with muesli. Jams and marmalade are made by me while honey comes from my nephew’s bees.
Pork is from our neighbour’s lovingly cared for Tamworth pigs and Rayner has started curing our own bacon. Since Mr Fox’s latest visit here when sadly he made off with the last of our chickens, eggs are also from our neighbour’s free range hens while sausages are from Andrew Rees, the award winning butcher in Narberth, 2 miles away.
However hard we try, there are, of course, exceptions and although we have two orange trees which do produce some fruit, and olive trees which do produce a few olives; sadly they do not produce enough to supply us with orange juice or olives for our guests.
