Skomer Island and Marloes Sands are included in travel guide The Lonely Planet’s Best in Europe 2015 list.
The guide said Skomer’s marine nature reserve and 500,000-strong bird population were among its draws.
It also recommended visiting Marloes Sands – “a mile-long sweep of beach that does a vanishing act at high tide”.

Skomer is stunning in early May when the island Is covered in a carpet of bluebells and campions. In April approximately 6,000 breeding pairs of Puffins return to the island and nest in a honeycomb of burrows. The chicks hatch in May and parents can be seen with mouthfuls of sand eels caught to feed their young. The puffins remain on the island until around the end of July. Kittiwakes, Manx Sheerwaters, Guillemots, Razorbills, Choughs, Gulls, Owls and, of course, rabbits also inhabit the island whilst Seals make the island their home and can be seen basking on the rocks or bottling in the clear water. Pups can be seen from late August.
Marloes Sands has played a starring role in several Hollywood blockbusters, being the location of the battle in “Lion in Winter” starring Peter O’Toole, Anthony Hopkins and Katharine Hepburn and, more recently, being used for filming “Snow White and the Huntsman”.
